Dental Care

Herschel Animal Clinic Dental Care

Is your dog or cat constantly pawing at his or her mouth? Are they drooling excessively, or do they have bad breath? Is chewing difficult, or does your dog or cat seem hesitant to eat? If so, these are some of the symptoms of dental disease.

Dental disease can cause a variety of health issues for both dogs and cats besides bad breath. Some of these include:

  • Bacteria that can get released into your pet's blood stream

  • Greater risks for kidney, liver and heart diseases

  • Severe pain

Why Pets Need Dental Care

Both dogs and cats need regular dental cleanings in their life. Pet dental cleanings should be performed regularly. The benefits of this are:

  • Ability to chart and evaluate pet dental disease over a period of time

  • Helps prevent the need for expensive and advanced pet dental procedures in the future

  • Can reduce the number of teeth extractions (pulling) for your cat or dog

Dental Disease in Dogs

The MOST COMMON disease in dogs is dental disease. Current statistics indicate that 92% of dogs, that are over that age of 3, have dental disease. Cats are also at risk with 85% over 3 struggling with the problem.

Herschel Animal Clinic sees more pets with dental disease issues than any other problems.

Scheduling annual pet dental cleanings add 2-4 years to your pet’s life!

Pet Dental Cleanings - What to Expect?

While under general anesthesia, your dog or cat can receive a thorough dental cleaning. Herschel Animal Clinic uses a safe local anesthesia and monitors your pet’s heart rate, oxygen and respiration before, during and after. An assessment is done on the animal’s entire mouth including lips, tongue, gums, and teeth.
